FAQS

What are the lead times and minimum FFC order quantities?
The typical lead time for standard circuits is two weeks. Special assemblies requiring custom tooling may take longer, although our in house tool group makes us the fastest in the industry. There are no minimum order quantities. We’ll support your project from prototype to mass production.
What are the main advantage of flexible flat cable?
Dousion's Flexible Flat Cable have many advantages including:
FFC provides a high density of connections in a thin flexible profile
FFC speeds production on assembly lines.
FFC offers millions of cycles to failure in high flexing applications such as print heads or clock spring mechanisms.
FFC can be made in custom configurations combining data lines and power lines. Sections of cable can be cut and folded to make harnesses fitting specific applications
What is the difference between flexible flat cables (FFC) and traditional round cables?
Flexible Flat Cable (FFC) are lightweight, thin, and designed for flexibility, while traditional round cables are bulkier and less adaptable. FFC use flat conductors encased in a flexible plastic film, making them ideal for compact devices and applications requiring frequent bending. Round cables, on the other hand, are better suited for heavy-duty environments where durability and shielding are priorities.
What are flexible flat cables (FFC)?

Flexible Flat Cables (FFC) are thin, flat cables made of multiple conductors arranged in a parallel configuration. These cables are known for their flexibility, lightweight design, and ability to transmit high-speed signals efficiently. You often find them in compact electronic devices where space-saving and reliable connections are essential.

What are flexible flat cable (FFC) used for?
Flexible Flat Cable (FFC) serve a wide range of applications due to their unique design and properties. You can find them in consumer electronics, automotive systems, medical devices, and industrial equipment. Their flexibility and compact structure make them ideal for connecting components in tight spaces or devices requiring frequent motion. Whether you're working on a robotics project or assembling a laptop, FFC cables provide reliable and efficient connectivity.

What are flexible flat cable made of?
Flexible Flat Cable typically consist of flat metallic conductors, such as copper, bonded to a flexible plastic film base. The insulation and jacketing materials, often made from PVC or polyethylene, protect the conductors and enhance flexibility. Adhesives and laminates hold the layers together, ensuring structural integrity and resistance to environmental factors.

What is the pitch on an FFC cable?
What is the pitch on an FFC cable?
The pitch refers to the distance between the centers of two adjacent conductors in an FFC cable. This measurement is crucial for ensuring compatibility with connectors and devices. Common pitches include 0.4mm, 0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.27mm and 2.54mm. When selecting an FFC cable, always verify the pitch to match your specific application requirements.

How do flexible flatcables work?
Flexible Flat cables, including FFCs, transmit electrical signals or power between components. Their flat and flexible design allows them to fit into compact spaces and endure repeated bending. The conductors carry the electrical current, while the insulation prevents short circuits and protects against external damage. This combination of functionality and adaptability makes them essential in modern electronic devices.

Can flexible flat cable handle dynamic environments?
Yes, flexible flat cable are designed to endure dynamic environments. Their durability allows them to withstand repeated bending, twisting, and movement without compromising performance. You can rely on them in applications like robotics, wearable devices, and automotive systems where constant motion occurs.

Can flexible flat cable handle high temperatures?
Yes, flexible flat cables can handle high temperatures when made with heat-resistant materials like XLPE or silicone. These materials ensure the cable maintains its performance in demanding environments, such as automotive engines or industrial machinery. Always check the cable's temperature rating to confirm its suitability for your application.
